The Band arrives on Western Airlines at the San Francisco Airport on Friday, October 29, 1954, for the UCLA at Cal game the next day. The photo shows about 50 of the 100 band members who made the trip (maybe a second flight?). Director Clarence Sawhill is pictured on the right in the dark suit. Drum Major Richard Jones standing at the top of the steps, and Assistant Drum Major Donald McCampbell just below him. According to the UCLA Band's publicity info, this was "the first band in recent West Coast history to travel completely by air."
